Basic Psychic Training

Many of us think that we do not have psychic ability, and that we cannot learn to be psychic. But how many of us have put a fraction of energy into attempting to learn psychic abilities as we have, say, reading and writing?

If any of you remember back to your school days, the years of reading and writing were fraught. Letters were written back to front, and books learnt by memory rather than understanding any of the words on paper. But gradually, through constant trying, gentle teaching, and feedback, we began to be able to read clearly.

The exact same thing is true for psychic ability. Well then, these exercises are back to basics psychic lessons, teaching us to ‘read’ psychically – just as we learned to read and write.

Firstly, take a glossy magazine, perhaps a women’s fashion magazine. Make sure it is one you haven’t looked at before – you may even wish to buy one especially for this purpose.

Sit for a moment and allow yourself to center. Close your eyes. Now, with your eyes closed, open the cover. Fold the cover all the way around, so that only one page stares up at you from the table (the reason for this will become clear afterwards).

Place your hand over the magazine page, and with your eyes still closed, pay attention the the images that appear to you in the darkness of your closed lids. You will see the images change, and in the begining you might want to ‘force’ a result. Let this urge dissipate. Pay attention to the types of shapes that reoccur, register them, and open your eyes. What is the image, and at what stage of your “viewing” did you see anything like this?

Repeat the process, again and again and again. This is a preliminary exercise, and we are not trying to force or even reach a prediction of what we may see, but rather to “build the muscles”, and to train our conscious minds to identify the accurate, psychic views from the forced ones

When looking at your inner vision, try not to get stuck on preconceived notions of what you might see. Yes, a fishing magazine might have pictures of fish on most pages, but it could just as easily have a picture of trophy, or of a page of black and white text, for that matter. Similarly, in a fashion magazine you could expect a picture of a woman, but it might also hold pictures of plates and cutlery – or of a speedboat. It is best to not put any labels on your imagery at this stage, and just pay attention to general shapes, and how you might describe those shapes to yourself.

The reason we fold the other page back is evident if we try it with both pages open. As much as we might try to say “I am focusing on the right hand page”, psychic vision does not work in the same way as our normal vision. Try it yourself and see. In the earlier stages, you will find images from the “wrong” page come up in our mind almost more often than the “correct one”. This is perhaps because images come into our mind more easily than our ability to control them, as yet.

Even after one session, you should be surprised at the words you describe. Now, imagine how accurate you would become if you did this as often as you read a magazine with your eyes! Try to make a similar exercise a regular occurrence and you will see some amazing results – particularly when combined with our other, gradually more advanced, exercises.

Once you gain confidence with the process, you might like to say to yourself the words that come to you when you see these images: “a woman and a hook”, “sticks and a large circle”, et cetera. Which of these seem more accurate to you, the words or the mental pictures? Some of us can be more attuned to one or the other psychically as we are in our so-called ‘normal’ lives.

Apartment or Workplace Variation

One nice variation to this technique, because we can incorporate it into our everyday lives, is to do the same thing with our homes or workplaces. Anywhere that we share with others, and that we leave to them to use while we are away for a significant period.

As you approach this building after an absence, ask yourself what has been most significantly moved, added, or is somehow different to a well-used part of this building. Let your mind go blank, and pay attention to the first thing that comes to mind. Then, as you enter the room, compare your prediction to the results.

What is most important here isn’t accuracy, it is again the process of feedback you are establishing. Comparing the prediction and the reality will help you see how your mind tells you information, and what is the difference between preconceived ideas, and true psychic vision.

For example, as I rode the elevator to my office today, I let my mind go blank, and asked what was different in the main foyer area that I would enter. I immediately saw tall, vertical lines appear in the colorful blackness of my closed eyes. Thinking to the space, I thought this was most likely a tall vase, or flowers.

The reality was that someone had draped a beach towel over a chair in the foyer – the only significant new thing in there… and it had long, stripey lines. Indeed, there were new flowers, but they were in the bathroom, not the foyer. Seeing both things made me jump, another good feedback system to know what was being seen.

It is the small act of repeating this type of activity every day that can help you to ‘tune in’ to your own personal voice, so that you can begin to ask it more and more complicated questions.

Some sample languages readers have reported seeing:

  1. A diagonal yellow stripe, ascending from left to right. Corresponded to the door being unexpectedly locked to the house.
